The Wren's Nest, Pool House, Poolewe

NEW FOR 2026

FRIDAY – FRIDAY BOOKINGS

Situated at the mouth of the River Ewe, this unique romantic getaway with private hot tub is a cozy converted boathouse where you can relax and sleep, and a quaint shepherd's hut just a few steps away where you can prepare and enjoy dinners for two. This quirky boathouse/shepherd's hut combo is full of vintage charm but with all "mod cons". It has fabulous sea and river views and is in easy walking distance of local facilities.

It is situated in the grounds of Pool House, a former WW2 headquarters - now a museum and café, and has been named after the 175 Wrens stationed here during wartime. Entry to the museum is included with your stay. This is an idyllic location surrounded by sea and rugged mountain landscapes. All you need to do is relax and enjoy watching otters and seals swim past while you’re taking in the beautiful summer sunsets.

Poolewe is a very pretty village and has a village shop providing holiday essentials, a hotel/bar, cafés, indoor swimming pool and a village hall, which hosts a local producers weekly market and has a tap room for the local brewery. There are many excellent walks close by, and there are many outstanding sandy beaches within a short drive.

The world famous Inverewe Gardens are less than 10 minutes’ walk away and the River Ewe is one of the best salmon fishing rivers in the area. Gairloch, the nearest small town, is only 6 miles away and there you will find more shops, restaurants and hotels. From Gairloch pier, wildlife cruises can be arranged and there is also a golf course and pony trekking centre.

Accommodation

The accommodation is in two units.

Former boathouse – This comprises a living area with comfortable seating and a multi-fuel wood burning stove, a king size bed with sea views and TV with Netflix. A large bathroom completes the accommodation and has a large bath, separate shower cubicle with power shower, toilet, bidet and hairdryer. There is a Tassimo machine in the boathouse with various capsules for you to make hot drinks and a kettle for making a brew in the morning without going to the hut.

Shepherds Hut – This is separate to the main accommodation and comprises a kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has a ceramic hob, small oven, microwave and small fridge. There is a Tassimo machine in the boathouse with various capsules for you to make hot drinks and a kettle for making a brew in the morning without going to the hut.

Oil central heating. Underfloor heating in bathroom and kitchen/dining area. Air conditioning unit in boathouse for summer.

There is a pleasant, grassed garden with a picnic table and views over Loch Ewe, and there is off-road parking. Please note parking is not directly beside the property, but just a short stroll through the grounds of Pool House.
