Welcome

Welcome to Wester Ross Retreats diary, where we will try to bring you news of any notable events in the Gairloch area.

Well it has been a good week for wildlife. The local whale watching boat has had sightings of a humpback whale and a sei whale - both very rare in these waters. Also basking sharks and rissos dolphins. Closer to land we have seen an otter off Gairloch beach, a sea eagle and a woodpecker in the garden.

The weather is being kind - an Indian summer has been upon us, although today has let the side down with strong winds and driving rain. It is still very mild though. It can change so quickly though, the sun will probably be out again before the end of the day.

The village is beginning to quieten down after a busy summer - an ideal time for a late break and plenty of our self catering cottages have vacancies for the October school holidays. Autumn is a lovely season for a holiday in Wester Ross.
